Six Inducted into Olivet Nazarene Athletics Hall of Fame

During a special Homecoming presentation in between the women’s and men’s basketball games on Friday, Nov. 6, the Olivet Nazarene University Department of Athletics will welcome six former athletes into the University’s Hall of Fame.
Ranier Caldwell was a member of the Tiger football team from 1990-1993. He was a 1991 and 1992 NAIA Second Team All-American and a 1991 and 1992 NAIA District 20 First Team selection.
Lee Coomler played for Olivet’s Men’s Basketball team from 1998-2000. He was a CCAC All-Conference selection in 1998, 1999, and 2000 and the CCAC Player-of-the-Year in 2000. He also was selected as a NAIA Second Team All-American in 2000.
Steve Hassell was a member of the Olivet football team from 1987-1990. He was a 1990 NAIA Second Team All-American and a 1988, 1989, and 1990 NAIA District 20 First Team selection.
Drew Neal, a 1997-2000 men’s basketball player, was chosen as a CCAC All-Conference selection and a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American for the 2000 season.
Matt Schweitzer, a 1997-2000 Olivet baseball player, was selected as the 2000 CCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year and a 2000 NAIA Second Team All-American. He also went on to play professionally for the Kansas City Royals in 2003.
Shanda Spurlock was a member of the Olivet’s Track and Field team from 1998-1999. She was a 1998 and 1999 NCCAA All-American and National Champion. She also was a 1998 and 1999 NAIA Indoor and Outdoor All-American and National Champion in two events.
The six inductees bring the total number of inductees into the Olivet Nazarene University Department of Athletics Hall of Fame to 79. The first class was in 1982, when the University inducted former director of athletics and coach C.W. “Butch” Ward.
