Members of Olivet’s Compassionate Ministries took to the streets on Halloween to gather treats for others. The annual Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat food drive collects nonperishable foods for people in Kankakee County.

“Compassionate Ministries is an outreach ministry; we want to serve the community in a way that reflects Christ’s love,” says Allison Reed, event organizer. “We believe Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat is a great way to get involved with the community.”

After knocking on 100 doors throughout the community, students brought in 10 boxes and 38 bags of food. The canned goods and nonperishable items were donated to the Kankakee Center of Hope.

“Winter is coming and there is an increased need, especially since the food pantries are low,” says Allison. “When we dropped the food off, there were people of all ages and ethnicities going in and out of the Center. It was humbling to see how much of a need this food is for them.”
